Shortbread Crust Recipe
If you are a big fan of tarts and cheese cakes, then am sure you already know that it all start with a simple shortbread crust. A shortbread crust is nothing but a mixture of 3 ingredient which can be found in almost every kitchen.
Although in today’s world, you can easily buy shortbread crust from any supermarket, I do not see the need for that since it is so easy to make. Plus as a big believer in home cooking, I am sharing this easy recipe with you today because if you are reading this blog post, then I assume you want to learn how to make your own shortbread crust. To start you will need;
Ingredient :
½ Cup Butter (113 g)
1 Cup Flour (130 g)
¹⁄3 Cup Granulated white sugar (75 g)
Pinch of salt (optional)
Procedure:
Cut butter into cubes, make sure it’s very cold. If you have a food processor, great but if you don’t,equally take a big bowl and a pastry cutter or 2 forks and cut the butter into the flour and sugar mix until it resemble bread crumbs. For those with a food processor, just throw all the ingredient in there and pause a few times until it turns into crumbs.
Take your tart pan or a pie casserole and pour the crumbs in there. Starting from the sides, press a good amount of crumbs all around the pan and spread what is left at the bottom of the tart pan.
Refrigerate for 30 minutes to an hour. Personally, I like to do this step a day before, that way I can chill the crust overnight or you can even freeze this for months. When you are ready to use your shortbread crust, pre–heat your oven to 220°c (428°f), use a fork to poke a few holes at the bottom and bake the crust between 13–15 minutes or until the crust turns golden brown.
Remove from oven and let it cool on a wire rack completely for about 30 minutes and it is ready to be use for whatever dessert you want to make with it. My all time favorite is a simple fruit tart using 3 different berries.
