My Kids healthy Breakfast
Knowing well that it is much easier to make a jelly sandwich and a drink for breakfast, I think our children deserve better than that on a daily basis. As breakfast is the first meal of the day,eaten in the morning before undertaking the day’s work, our energy depends on that. This means, it is important to feed our children a healthy breakfast.
Our breakfast consist of Cereal (Oatmeal), eggs, fruits, milk and some fruit juice. I prefer oatmeal because, a bowl of oatmeal has a lot of healthy benefits. Example: A bowl of oatmeal a day, no matter how small prevents: Cardiovascular disease ( heart disease), Constipation ( because of the rich source of fibre), Controls blood sugar level ( which cut the risk of type 2– Diabetes), Reduce the risk of Cancer and Hypertension ,Supports weight loss and the list goes on.
Am sure someone might be wondering whether my children don’t get bored with eating oatmeal every single day, the answer is no they don’t get bored with eating Oatmeal on a daily basis. I start feeding my children oatmeal as soon as they start eating and so they know breakfast is always oatmeal. For the fruits, bread and juice, I try to change it up as much as I can. So for instant, one day homemade pumpkin bread with oatmeal, eggs and strawberry , the next day, toast bread with eggs, mango and oatmeal etc. This makes it more exciting.
To make our healthy breakfast, you will need;
Ingredient :
½ Cup Oatmeal or any cereal of your choice
2 Cups water /Milk
Fruits ( ones your children like)
Eggs
milk
Banana
Procedure :
Make sure all fruits are inspected, to make sure there aren’t any rotten ones, wash and cut into small sizes.
In a small pot, bring water to a boil, then add oatmeal and let it cook for about 1 minute. Take off the heat and cover with a lid.
For the omelet , break eggs into a bowl, add a pinch of salt and whisk until it is a bit foamy. Add a few drops of olive oil to a frying pan and on medium heat, fry eggs to your liking .
Because I still haven’t introduce sugar to my youngest, who is a toddler, I mash-up half a banana and mix his oatmeal with it for a bit of sweetness. For my oldest, who is 8 years old, I add a bit of brown sugar. Add a few spoons of fresh milk /powdered milk and serve with your colorful fruits and toast bread or with some homemade pumpkin bread.
I do understand there are some busy working Parents out there, who won’t have time to make a full breakfast every day but thus ok. You can make it more special by choosing days, example weekends or your days off and put a smile on your children’s face by making them a healthy and colorful breakfast. I hope you get inspired from this post and thank you for taking the time to read.
